Absorber Design for CO₂ Capture Process

The client intended to test the special solvent and they were expecting to compare the performance with the conventional amine system. 

The EAVD® was installed in the absorber to cover the wide operating range of absorption process while maintaining the high efficiency.

While the gas feed rate was 50% of the design, CO2 absorbing rate was 80% when the liquid level of EAVD® was 0%.

The client increased the liquid level on EAVD® from 0% to 50% to enhance gas distribution. The pressure drop through EAVD® was increased 

from 45 mmAq to 250 mmAq by increasing the liquid level.

As a result, as the gas was distributed uniformly to the packing bed above, the absorption rate was improved to 86% without increasing the amine circulation rate.
